About the showcase

The aim of the Youth Showcase is to encourage and nurture creativity among children and young people from Mangawhai and the surrounding areas. Creating connections and expressing ourselves through art adds positively to our wellbeing.

Welcome to the Mangawhai Artists Youth Art Showcase. We are inviting young artists from Mangawhai and the surrounding areas to share their work with the community via an online exhibition found on this website.

Guests from the local community will be invited to select artworks that resonate with them and these entrants will receive an art pack to support their future artistic endeavours.

An award ceremony and community celebration will be held at the Mangawhai Artists Gallery in the Spring (date to be confirmed).

All funds for this project were kindly donated by Mangawhai Central.

Dates

Entries are welcomed from 1st July until Wednesday 30th September (extended from Friday 25 September 2020).

Who can enter?

  • Young people aged 4 to 20 (as at October 2020).
  • Those who live in Mangawhai or the surrounding areas: Tomorata, Tapora, Tauhoa, Kaiwaka, Wellsford, Mangaturoto, Paparoa, Waipu, Wellsford, Warkworth, Ruakaka, and students who attend Otamatea High School, Rodney College, Bream Bay College, and Mahurangi College.

What kind of artwork can I enter?

We welcome artworks of all sorts including: drawing, painting, print, sculpture, collage, an item you’ve constructed out of wood or other materials etc.

We want to see a work that you have created this year. It can be something that you’ve made in your own time, or for a school project.

How many artworks can I enter?

One per person please.

How do I enter?

Take photographs of your artwork and submit them, along with the completed online form on this website here.

Tips for photographing your work: Photograph in natural light. A cloudy overcast day or somewhere with indirect sunlight provides the best lighting. Often a neutral coloured wall works as a good backdrop. Sometimes cropping your photographs can also give a good result.

What happens next?

Check back after a couple of days and your artwork will be showcased here on this website for you to share with your family and friends, and for everyone to enjoy.

If one of our community guests chooses your artwork as their personal favourite then you’ll receive an Art Pack with art supplies for your future projects.

Everyone who enters will also be invited to the celebration we will hold at the Mangawhai Artists Gallery in the Spring (date TBC).
